How to Advertise Tutoring, Lessons and Classes

Teaching is sold on trust, and a listing has none to start with. What to put in the first two lines, how to price a trial, and why naming the level you teach matters more than naming your qualifications.

A tutoring listing is competing for a parent's or a learner's trust before it has earned any. Almost everything that works is a way of being concrete.

Name the level, not just the subject

"Mathematics" is a subject. "Mathematics for the last two years of school, exam-focused" is a service somebody is searching for. The level does more filtering than any qualification you list, because a parent knows their child's year and does not know your certification's weight.

Say how a lesson actually runs

Length, frequency, in person or online, at your place or theirs, what happens between lessons. A first-time buyer of tutoring genuinely does not know, and the listing that explains it feels like the safe choice.

Price it, and price a trial separately

Per hour, per session, or per package — pick one and say it. A discounted or short first session lowers the risk of the decision, which is the actual obstacle. It also gets you in front of somebody who will otherwise spend three weeks deciding.

Decide whether you are teaching or fixing

These are different products bought by different people. "Ongoing weekly support" is sold to a parent planning a year. "Six sessions before the exam" is sold to one who has just seen a report card. Say which you offer — or offer both, clearly separated, because a reader who cannot tell which they are buying buys neither.

Make the first contact easy to say yes to

A free fifteen-minute conversation, or a first lesson at a lower rate, converts far better than any amount of description. The decision a parent is making is not about price; it is about handing their child to a stranger, and a short low-stakes meeting is what answers it.

Evidence beats adjectives

What your students achieved, how long you have taught, whether you have taught this exact syllabus. One specific result outweighs a paragraph of "passionate and dedicated".

Then let the reviews do it

On this site a review can only be left by somebody you actually dealt with — there are no anonymous ratings and no way to buy them. That makes the first few genuinely worth asking for.

Say where the lesson happens, precisely

Online, your home, their home, or a public place — and if you travel, how far and whether it changes the price. Travel time is the hidden cost that makes tutoring unprofitable, and stating a radius protects you from taking a booking you will resent. For online lessons, name the platform and say what the learner needs.

List it in Learning & Classes, or start a new listing.
